Sugar Isn't Your Enemy, But This Might Be

Sugar isn’t your enemy. Shame is.

It took me years to understand that. Some days I still forget.

For so long, I thought the problem was my body. Or food. Or sugar.

I tried to fix, restrict, or control—thinking that would bring peace.
But the real thing I was trying to get rid of?
Shame.

The shame of not feeling enough.
The shame of carrying more weight than I wanted to since I was conditioned and programmed to believe thinner was better.
The shame of feeling out of control, or too much, or not disciplined enough.

The shame of not fitting in.

The shame of not doing it all right.

But the thing is… sugar was never the enemy.
It was comfort. A pause.  It was a consistent presence, reliable and accessible. It was a hit of dopamine to wake up a depleted system.

A moment of sweetness when everything else felt overwhelming. But what I really needed was a different kind of sweetness.

Safety. Compassion. My own loving kindness. Grace. Ease. Freedom.

If this resonates, I want you to know—you’re not broken.
You’re not bad for eating sugar.
You’re not failing because you haven’t figured it all out yet.

You might be someone who learned to protect herself through control or food.

You might be someone who is SO hard on yourself that you body is in a constant state of discomfort.

You might be someone who never learned how to be with emotions in a safe way because no one modeled that for you.

You might be someone who has always been trying to do the right thing and the perfectionism is exhausting.

And you’re now someone who is starting to remember that there’s another way.

A softer way. A truer way. A path back to peace, freedom, and deep self-trust.

Bravo. I see and celebrate your courage. You are doing it!

I’m walking this new path too. We are waking up together.
